It didn't take long for us to feel welcomed back! After arrival, of course, the first thing to do is unpack things we brought down as well as things we packed up down here before leaving. Important things like the coffee maker, the water pump for our drinking water, sheets for the bed, towels etc. We got the fridge started still on the cinder blocks (all appliances are put up on blocks in the case water enters from a hurricane), We stocked the fridge immediately with fine Superior beer we had stored with our valuables! We had all our clothes, sheets, and towels packed n vacuum bags. They had no mold or mildew but there still is an ongoing debate about whether the elastic in Peggy's underwear weathers the heat in the summer.
After awhile our friend and neighbor Rita called to invite us over for pizza and beer. Would we rather go to the grocery or a enjoy Rita's homemade pizza and beer? No question- pizza and beer. When we left, she packed a breakfast Care package of eggs, coffee, bread and yogurt. What a woman! It sure took the pressure off us in the AM.
We had been visited that day by our other neighbor, Deb. The next day it was Javier the Churro Man, Gezer the water delivery guy, Baltezar, a man who watches a house down the street, and other neighbors Chuck ad Moni. More unpacking that day as well as getting hot water and stove connected. The next day we were visited by friends Edwin, Mariana and their daughter Abril,.
Since then,, we've connected with good friends Bob and Lynn, and Dick and Gwen. We have also seen the Blue Angel crowd, as Peggy began her afternoon ocean swims. We visited with our friends at Eco Divers aka Cheers Bar downtown.
In some ways it's like we never left and just like John Denver sings "hey, it's good to be back home again".
Rita, Robert and 2 of their 3 dogs, Bonnie and Greta.
We saw Miguel (here with his wife Fabiola last year) at Sam's on a toilet paper run. He told us to check out the Buen Fin Sale which was a gem of a tip as we'll explain later!
Dick and Gwen at a party last year.
Lynn and Bob at that same event. We obviously had a camera that evening as opposed too our normal lapse of memory. What, us?
Chuck and Moni at one of our favorite places, Buccanos!
Edwin, Mariana, Abril and Peggy.Matt and Deb with Siamese kitty. Matt and Deb took care of the kitties while we were gone. Now we find the Siamese just laying by their door at meal times waiting for them to open up their kitty restaurant and lounge. She even has a dedicated lounge chair in their beautiful garden area. Peggy is pretty envious!
